Holder of the 450 class red plate, Australia’s Chad Reed will look to make tracks and extend his lead over rival riders as the second half of the Lucas Oils AMA Pro Motocross Championship gets underway at Spring Creek in Millville this weekend.

Round 7 of the national outdoors series will provide another good pointscoring opportunity for Reed, who is slowly but surely winning the fight against a mystery raceday stomach virus.

The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider has used the fortnight break to his benefit, mixing light training in with some well-deserved rest in preparation for his next challenge.

Reed took his first ever overall victory at High Point Raceway, going 1-1. He was on course for a similar result at Redbud during round 6 but had to settle for 1-3 after fading in the final moto.

These results, accompanied by a number of podium finishes, have helped him to build a lead which currently stands at 21 points.

“It’s good to get another week off and focus on getting healthy,” said Reed. “I am confident we are making progress with the virus and it showed at Redbud.

“It was a good result and allowed me to make some points on second, which is important.

“It’s a competitive championship and each week there are a number of guys capable of winning.

“I’ve just got to keep my head down, keep working with the team and getting the bike sorted so I can make a break at the start and hold it through the moto.”

The RM-Z450 pilot leads the way despite not having contested a full season of the national outdoor championship since 2006.
