CHAD REED: The 40 Year Old Virgin full
Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Chad Reed added a second overall 450 win to his career tally with a dominant performance at the Spring Creek Motocross facility in Millville on the weekend.
The Australian rider entered round 7 of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship with a solid points lead, knowing he would need to fight hard to maintain the margin over his closest challengers.
Reed was one of the pacesetters in practice, eventually finishing a close second to Josh Grant.
Two near-perfect starts set up a pair of strong motos for the RM-Z450 pilot.
Moto one saw Reed battle with Grant for much of the duration before settling for second place.
He carried this form into the day’s second and final moto and was a convincing winner, clearing out from the pack in one of the most dominant rides the 450 class has seen this season.
“I felt great this weekend,” said Reed. “On Friday we had press day, which allowed me to get a good feel for the track and how the bike would respond.
“We’d spent the week off making some changes to the bike and immediately I could tell they were working.
“I felt confident and converted this to two good starts, which is so important. Josh (Grant) and I set the pace for most of the opening moto and although second was good, I felt I probably had a win in me.
“The second moto was much better. I felt good, I had energy in reserve and the changes we had made to the bike during the day made it awesome to ride.
“It was a great feeling to clear out and take the win, which also gave us the overall.
“I’m not there yet in terms of my health but I certainly felt better. We’re working on a good program and I feel like I’m starting to see a light at the end of all this – fingers crossed.”
The Spring Creek results further add to Reed’s impressive record of finishes – he has placed top three in 10 of the 14 motos to date.
The Australian’s lead over second place has extended to 37 points with five rounds remaining.
The championship continues at Washougal MX Park next weekend.
