Oz MX: Moss sets up Suzuki for Pro Lites MX Nationals title

SHIFT MOTUL SUZUKI:

Team Shift Motul Suzuki Pro Lite star Matt Moss turned in another vintage performance in the penultimate round of the 2009 Australian National Motocross Championship at Lakes, New South Wales.

Moss showed no effects from the long break since round six and showed why he and the Suzuki RM-Z250 remain the combination to beat with just one round left.

In what has to be the most exciting race of the year, the first Pro Lites moto demonstrated just how much the standard of racing in the class has lifted recently.

Within the first lap of the first moto Moss and rival Luke George had already broken away from the rest of the field and the next 30 minutes of racing took the Pro Lites Championship battle to another level.

Moss and George continued to smash each other’s lap times and banged bars at every turn.

Taking it down to the line, George got a small break but was only half a second clear of Moss at the chequered flag.

Moss showed his class in the second moto, overcoming a tardy start and slicing his way through the pack. By lap nine he was back in the lead and then held off his opponents with ease to win by more than seven seconds.

It ensured another round win for Moss, his 47 point haul maintaining his hold on the red plate with three more motos left to run at Coolum next weekend.

Rising star Lawson Bopping had another excellent round, racking up 31 points and finishing fifth overall. With one round left to run he is only three points away from fourth place.

In Pro Open Cam Taylor had his best qualifying run for the season and finished eighth overall while logging another solid points haul. With one round remaining the Suzuki veteran is set for another top 10 finish.

Strong Pro Open results were also recorded by Adam Monea who claimed seventh in the first moto and factory mounted GNCC front runner, Josh Strang, who carded a creditable tenth in moto two.

JAY FOREMAN – TEAM SHIFT MOTUL SUZUKI MANAGER
“Another great performance by Matt. He knew what he had to do to keep his hold on the red plate and went out and did it.

“We’re in the best possible shape for the final round this weekend. The Suzuki RM-Z250 is running superbly and Matt’s healthy and riding with a lot of maturity.

“We’ll all certainly be doing our best at Coolum to secure the Pro Lites MX title win for Suzuki.”

MATT MOSS – TEAM SHIFT MOTUL SUZUKI
“Everything is coming good, my team is working great, Jay is a good mentor and he tells me what to do and keeps me safe,” Moss said.

“One more round to go, three more races and with a 22 point lead it’s looking good – I’ve just got to keep doing what I’m doing.

“I think me and Luke and Tye fight so much because we all want it just as much and its going to make for some great racing in this last round and whoever gets it, hats off to them but I’m going to be fighting to the end.”
