Oz MX: Champions to be crowned in Queensland on Sunday

MOTORCYCLING AUSTRALIA:

Australia’s best Motocross riders are heading North for the winter as the final round of the 2009 Australian Motocross Championship gets under way on 1-2 August.

Throughout the year the Series has weaved its way around the nation from Victoria, Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales, out west to South Australia and Western Australia and far north Queensland covering a whopping 24,000 kilometres.

More than 245 riders have lined up on the start straight during the season including qualifying for the 2009 FIM World Junior Motocross Championship Australian Team.

In a first for Australian Motocross, new race formats made their debut in the Series mixing things up with more points than ever before up for grabs.

The Series Grand Finale will see the Jay Marmont (Yamaha) and Cheyne Boyd (Yamaha) battle it out for Pro Open Championship glory, while Pro Lites riders Matt Moss (Suzuki) and Luke George (Kawasaki) fight their own war for the Series Crown.

Luke Styke (Yamaha) and Harley Quinlan (Yamaha) in the Under 19s will continue their title fight and the next Australian Women’s Motocross Champion will be decided.

If that wasn’t enough – the Vest are back and are set to bang bars as a support class over the two-day event.

All the action kicks off 8:30am Saturday 1 August with practice, official qualifying, and the first two of the Women’s motos.

The on-track excitement continues on Sunday when the riders get down to the business of winning Championships.
