HONDA AUSTRALIA:
For the ninth year running, motorcycle riders from around the country descended upon Thredbo, NSW in support of the Honda Snowy Ride, a charitable event that raises much needed funds for children’s cancer research.
With just a smidgen of snow left on the uppermost tips of the Alpine region mountains, this year’s event saw another record crowd of 3,200 riders raise over $250,000 through entry fees, raffle tickets and other donations for the cause.
The Ride raises money for the ‘Stephen Walter Foundation’, inspired by a passionate young motorcycle rider who lost his fight against cancer nearly 10 years ago.
Since its establishment, the event has raised over $2 million and seen over 21,000 riders register to participate.
“We stay involved year in and year out because we can see the direct benefit it is having for sick children in our country,” said Honda’s General Manager, Motorcycles, Tony Hinton.
“Having a number of manufacturers on board makes this a wonderfully collaborative effort for a worthy cause.”
“We had fantastic weather for this year’s Ride which made it particularly enjoyable for everyone coming up the mountain, as well as those who took advantage of the test rides we had on offer.”
“I would also like to Congratulate Mr Reichert from Victoria who won the major prize draw of a brand new ST1300 provided by Honda Australia,” he noted.
The 2010 Snowy Ride will be the 10 year anniversary of the iconic event, and to celebrate, organisers are now planning for a “Ride Around Australia” to take place around the same time as the Thredbo weekend.
