Oz SX: Reed quickest in qualifying for Parramatta round

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Chad Reed has topped qualifying for tonight’s fifth round of the Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, at Parramatta Stadium.

On a track filled with different combinations, Reed set a quickest lap of 38.875 to lead the field ahead of Dan Reardon (Woodstock Honda) by 0.479, with young Motorex KTM rider Tye Simmonds third quickest just 1.059 in arrears of Reed.

A tricky sand section has caused havoc throughout the practice and qualifying sessions, with a hard-pack surface on the remainder of the track making the tyre choice crucial for the night’s proceedings.

Fourth quickest in practice was Rockstar Maxima Honda’s Michael Byrne, edging out Kawasaki’s Craig Anderson, who has looked fast and consistent during the two sessions completed during the afternoon.

Another rider to look strong throughout the practice and qualifying session was last week’s winner Jay Marmont, the CDR Rockstar Yamaha rider sixth quickest in qualifying after a crash in the sand section mid-session. Reardon was also a crasher during the session.

Coastal KTM’s Daniel McCoy has been in form of late but could only manage seventh in practice just ahead of Jeremy McGrath, both of those guys having the pace to stay up front should they get out of the gets come race time.

In the Lites class it is Matt Moss who leads the way for Rockstar Motul Suzuki, lapping quicker as the session went on after the session was delayed by half an hour to water down the track.

A surprise second quickest was Luke Styke on the Yamaha development bike, taking advantage of being in non-seeded practice when the track had dried out further to set his best lap.
