Oz MX: Marmont to headline NSW Motocross Championship

Reigning MX Nationals Pro Open Champion Jay Marmont will heading the NSW title at Mt Kembla next weekend.

Reigning MX Nationals Pro Open Champion Jay Marmont will heading the NSW title at Mt Kembla next weekend.

The 2010 The Helmet Warehouse NSW Motocross Championships will get underway in style over the Easter long-weekend, as series entries have peaked at a record high.

Kicking-off in Wollongong in just over a week, the Helmet Warehouse NSW MX Championships will see more than 560 entries across Junior and Senior classes line-up for what is shaping up as the biggest NSW Motocross Championship to date.

Supporting the series’ growth, current Pro Open MX Nationals Champion, Super X superstar and Wollongong local Jay Marmont will enter the round as the favourite in the Pro Open field aboard his CDR Rockstar Yamaha YZ450F.

Other big name riders set to compete at the event include Tye Simmonds, Cody Mackie, Michael Addison and Lawson Bobbing.

Whilst numbers are at an all-time high – with some classes already forcing reserve riders – limited places are still available in most classes including all Women’s classes.

“Motorcycling NSW is very excited about the number of entries for the first round. It gives us a promising indication of the success and entertainment value for the remainder of the championship,” said MNSW general manager Daniel Gatt.

“Whilst we can always expect great entry numbers in the juniors classes, it’s always still a joy to see even bigger rider lists. However, it was extremely pleasing to see so many senior entries this year (196 to be exact). This sets the stage for a fantastic weekend of racing.”

Coinciding with the bumper rider entries, the series has received an even bigger boost with the addition of more championship sponsors and partners for 2010.

Motorcycling NSW has announced that Donjoy – sponsor and supplier of knee Braces and MX equipment to the likes of World MX Champion, Antonio Cariolli and World MX legend, Stefan Everts – has joined forces with Compex Australia – supplier of sports medicine equipment including Electro-muscle stimulators – to further build and promote NSW Motocross, getting behind the 2010 championship as series sponsors.

In addition to this, the 2010 series has also received another major boost with the inclusion of Cycle Torque as the event’s official media partner for 2010.

The opening round of the 2010 The Helmet Warehouse NSW Motocross Championships will take place at the Mt Kembla Circuit in Wollongong on 3-5 April.
