AMA SX: Reed strives for Vegas victory after emotional week

After an injury plagued season and a week of extreme highs and lows, Supercross hero Chad Reed is striving to finish the final round of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series on the top step of the podium, a victory that would mark his first of the season.

The Australian has endured an extremely emotional week with the arrival of his first child Tate Brady Reed, as well as the death of close friend Andrew McFarlane in a racing incident at the Australian Motocross Championship last Sunday.

After sitting out most of the series with a hand injury, the Kawasaki rider is yet to take victory in 2010 and acknowledges that a win this weekend at Sam Boyd Stadium would help to ease the disappointment of a terrible Supercross season.

“A win would mean a lot for so many reasons,” Reed said. “I have gone through just about every emotion this past week so I really want to go out and win for Ellie, Tate and Andrew.

“Since I have been in the big bike class I have always been able to win at least one race and I don’t want that to change that this season.

“There is no championship title to worry about and my baby is here, so I won’t be stressing about making it back home for the birth, I am just going to go out there and go for it.”

With just two weeks between the conclusion of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series and the start of the Lucas Oil AMA Motocross series, Reed has already turned his focus to defending the outdoor title, which he won last year.

“We have done some testing for motocross this week and I am feeling good on the bike and strong. My focus is fully on defending my motocross title and turning around, what has until now, been a disastrous year,” he added.

The final round of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series will be held at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday, 8 May (Sunday, 9 May AEST).
