ASBK: Staring storms to second Superbike win in race two

Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing’s Bryan Staring took his second victory in as many races this afternoon at Queensland Raceway’s third round of the 2010 Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship.

Staring dominated the second 16-lap outing of the weekend to claim the round overall and the championship lead, winning by 2.272 ahead of Team Suzuki’s Josh Waters.

A further 10 seconds behind was Wayne Maxwell, the former series leader rounding out the overall podium on his Demolition Plus GAS Honda, taking advantage of a mechanical DNF from Jamie Stauffer on his Ducati and a Turn Three crash by Glenn Allerton.

Maxwell made a move on Queenslander Robbie Bugden late in the race, who ended up fifth, with veteran Shawn Giles claiming sixth in the second outing of the day.

Top Superstock 1000 A and B finisher was again Craig Coxhell on the CJC Racing BMW S 1000 RR, this time finishing behind Racer’s Edge Suzuki’s Scott Charlton.

Allerton remounted to score points and claim 15th. Interestingly, Allerton switched from the 200 size Dunlop control tyre to the 190 size that Staring won on.

It’s believed that clutch troubles were the cause of Stauffer’s second DNF of the day, this time on his spare 1198R.

Stay tuned for a full report from the round.
