Oz SX: Development Series set for all rounds of Super X

The Michelin Junior Development Series has been expanded to include all Australian rounds of the 2010 Monster Energy Super X Championship following the huge success of the first three round series in 2009.

The series will give junior riders aged 14 and 15 the opportunity to gain valuable racing experience on each of the full sized U.S. supercross tracks constructed in the series around Australia.

A maximum of 22 riders will be able to compete at each round and all competitors must be supercross endorsed.

As part of its sponsorship Michelin will be the official tyre supplier of the series, with its line of STARCROSS tyres to be used exclusively by all competitors, which will assist riders in tackling the demanding circuits.

Michelin two-wheel manager Michael Inserra said the new series provides an opportunity to showcase the quality of up and coming junior talent whilst endorsing the proven race winning ability of the Michelin STARCROSS range.

“The support of Michelin means that young riders get experience on the best track designs this country has to offer and we’re extremely confident that our tyre will assist their performance through the durability and predictability, which has seen riders come to appreciate the Michelin MX range of products,” said Inserra.

General manager of Super X Mal Peter said having Michelin’s support for the championship will give Australia’s young riders the chance to perform better whilst developing invaluable experience on elite supercross tracks.

“The expansion of the Michelin Development Series and having the ongoing support of Michelin is a boost for the Monster Energy Super X and our future stars of the sport,” Peter commented. “We were overwhelmed with the positive feedback on the series last year and are so pleased we can expand it with the support of one of the industry’s biggest players.”

Details of class and criteria will be released with the championship Supplementary Regulation on Tuesday, 3 August.
