Brodie Waters won at Suzuka last weekend for Moriwaki Racing.

Australian Brodie Waters has starred on debut in Japan last weekend, claiming victory on debut in the Suzuka 4 Hours endurance race with the Moriwaki Club Racing team onboard a Honda CBR600RR.

Contested alongside the world famous Suzuka 8 Hours round of the Endurance World Championship, Waters and Japanese teammate Yoshitaka Miyajima won the event after the 18-year-old Mildura local scored pole position in his first visit to the Suzuka Circuit.

Waters claimed pole position with a 2:19.098 before Miyajima started the race, the pair battling on to complete 98 laps of the 5.807-kilometre Suzuka Circuit to win by 13.9 seconds at the conclusion of the race.

“I found out at the end of the race that I had made history since I was the first non-Japanese rider to win the 4-Hour and also the first rider to win the race in the first attempt,” Waters commented, fresh back from Japan.

“At the end of the race all the head bosses from HRC [Honda Racing Corporation] came up and congratulated me, so I think that it was an awesome result for Honda and great for me in my first race over there.”

Waters had the honour of taking the chequered flag for the team to clinch the victory, making it four straight Suzuka 4 Hours victories for the Moriwaki junior team – owned by the legendary Mamoru Moriwaki and managed by son Shogo Moriwaki.

The Victorian will now turn his attention to the fourth round of the Australian Supersport Championship, where he currently sits second in the series on his Sunstate/Waters Racing Suzuki GSX-R600, 19 points behind Team Suzuki factory rider Troy Herfoss.

Round four will take place at Queensland Raceway on 20-22 August, where Waters and younger brother Nick will be looking to continue their successful seasons to date in the Supersport and Superstock classes respectively.
