Oz MX: Junior motocross nationals at Lakes start on Sunday

Only days remain until hundreds of people descend on the Lake Macquarie area in New South Wales for the 2010 Honda Australian Junior Motocross Championship, kicking off on 25 September to 2 October.

The national championship, to be held at the Lake Macquarie Motor Bike Club, will feature riders from all around the country and even some International talent.

Among those competing will be 2009 winners Luke Clout and Wayde Carter, both of whom won the two classes they entered.

Speaking before the championship, Clout, who represented Australia at the 2009 Junior Motocross World Championship in New Zealand, said he was doing all he could in the lead up to the event.

“I’ve been training really hard and I’d really like to back up my performance in 2009 with another good one this year,” Clout said.
“I’ll be riding in three classes this year – it’s going to be tough, but I’ve been going to the gym and preparing myself really well so I’m looking forward to it.”

It’s not just training and preparation Clout will be relying on when gates drop at the Lake Macquarie club, with the rider hoping for a home-track advantage when he takes to the circuit over the next week.

“It’s one of my home-tracks, I’ve grown up there, I really like it, it’s one of my favourite tracks – I’d hope for a home track advantage but the it could change a lot over the week.”

Also riding in three classes is Whittlesea, VIC local Carter, who is looking forward to the championship.

“I’ve been riding a lot and have increased the intensity of my gym sessions a bit more in the lead up to the Championship,” Carter said.
“Recently I competed in the Victorian State Titles and I got some good results, which will hopefully put me in good stead for the Junior Aussies.

“I’m looking forward to riding the three classes, and I like the Lake Macquarie track – I’ve ridden there before and while it’s pretty hilly it should be a good week.”
