Oz MX: Gibbs re-signs with Serco Yamaha for 2011 season

Serco Yamaha's Kirk Gibbs will be back again with the Queensland-based team in 2011.

Serco Yamaha's Kirk Gibbs will be back again with the Queensland-based team in 2011.

Kirk Gibbs has re-signed for the Serco Yamaha race team for the 2011 Australian MX Nationals and Supercross seasons.

Gibbs had a breakout season during the 2010 Pro Lites MX Nationals, winning two rounds, holding the red plate and also rounding out the season in second place behind American import PJ Larsen.

The South Australian’s speed, race craft and fitness all stepped up throughout the 2010 motocross season and the Serco Yamaha team was keen to have him back to headline their campaign for next season.

“I am happy to be back with the Serco Yamaha team for next season,” Gibbs stated. “I was looking at moving to the 450 class but no opportunities opened up. But as I am racing Lites again next year, there is no other team I would rather race for than Serco Yamaha.”

The 2011 season also makes the third year running that Gibbs has raced on board the factory Yamaha Lites team. Each season has seen the likeable South Australian step up the leader board and for 2011 nothing less than a championship is expected.

“Kirk has done a great job for the team over the past two seasons,” said Serco owner Gavin Eales. “He moved to Queensland, gets involved with testing and local races and genuinely puts his heart and soul into racing. We are proud to have him back and look forward to another strong year with him.”

Gibbs also feels that his pairing with the Serco Yamaha team is a great fit.

“Serco Yamaha builds great race bikes and the support and knowledge in the team is amazing,” he said. “Gavin, Michael, Adam and Peter all get involved in the racing and want the riders to achieve the best results possible with nothing left unturned.”

The remainder of the 2010 season will see Gibbs and his Serco Yamaha team compete for the Australian Super X Championship.

“It’s nice to have the contract stuff out of the way early, so now I can concentrate on my racing and getting my best results in Super X this season,” Gibbs concluded.
