Gobert finished fourth in Queensland, staying within reach of the title.

Gobert Motorsports/CycleOnline.com.au Yamaha’s Aaron Gobert finished a solid fourth overall at Queensland Raceway’s fourth round of the Australian Supersport Championship, keeping his championship hopes alive.

Gobert narrowly missed the overall podium by four points with 4-6 results in the pair of 17-lap races, now sitting fourth in the series overall and second in the Privateer Cup.

“It was a weekend where we got some important points, but it would have been nice to get on the podium overall for our sponsors,” Gobert said. “The battle for second in the championship is tight at the moment with just a few points separating us, so we need to keep pushing for the final round.

“The championship isn’t out of reach even though [Kevin] Curtain has a pretty comfortable lead – we’re not giving up hope of that just yet. I was able to win the opening round at Phillip Island to start the year, so hopefully I can repeat that and see where we end up come November.”

Gobert now sits 24 points behind factory Yamaha rider Curtain in the championship standings with two races to go, also just four points off leader Christan Casella in the Privateer Cup championship.

The former AMA Superstock Champion remains in title contention with just one round remaining, set to be contested at Phillip Island in Victoria on 18-20 November.
