Melandri poised for strong result at home WSBK round with Yamaha

Melandri will look to make up for lost championship points at Misano.

Melandri will look to make up for lost championship points at Misano.

Yamaha World Superbike team’s Marco Melandri is confident for a strong result this weekend at Misano.

After a difficult weekend at Miller two weeks ago, Melandri will look to capitalise on his familiarity with the circuit in San Marino.

“I’m delighted to be heading to Misano. It’s really near home for me and it’s a track I like and I know really well. I’ve ridden the track many times since I first started riding when I was a kid,” Melandri commented.

“Ive also always had relatively good results there in the past and I think it’s the perfect track where I can get over the difficult weekend I had in the USA and put that behind me.”

Miller saw Melandri struggle to find a suitable bike setup for the circuit, only managing sixth and tenth place race finishes, but he feels his local knowledge this weekend at Misano should see him get back on track.

“Ive also always had relatively good results there in the past and I think it’s the perfect track where I can get over the difficult weekend I had in the USA and put that behind me,” Melandri added.

Melandri currently sits second in the World Superbike Championship heading into Misano, now 61 points behind series leader, Althea Racing’s Carlos Checa.
