Davies wins in wild card race at Oulton Park BSB 125GP round

Young Aussie Matt Davies won his first BSB 125cc Grand Prix race on Sunday at Oulton Park.

Young Aussie Matt Davies won his first BSB 125cc Grand Prix race on Sunday at Oulton Park.

In nothing less than what would be described as treacherous conditions, 15-year-old Matt Davies splashed his way to a 21-second win in the Sunoco British 125cc Championship at Oulton Park on the weekend.

After setting provisional pole on Saturday, Davies then was relegated to start out of P2 on the grid after the second qualifying by championship leader Rob Guiver.

Davies lead the British Championship after the first two rounds of the series before deciding to concentrate on the European Junior Cup at the World Superbikes in which he currently sits in second position.

The young Australian returned to BSB for Oulton Park as a wild card entrant for team KRP and cruised to an effortless win to take his maiden victory in the championship.

The last Australian to stand on the top step of the British 125 championship was Casey Stoner.

Davies did not get off to a great start to enter to first corner in sixth position. However it didn’t take long before he picked off each rider one by one and by midway through lap two took the lead and was never headed.

He then rode on to lap up to six seconds a lap faster than anyone else to streak to his massive lead.
