Former Australian Superbike champion Glenn Allerton has received an unexpected call up by the Doodson Motorsport British Superbike team to ride in place of the injured Tom Tunstall this weekend at Brands Hatch.

Allerton, who has been on holiday in the UK, will get the opportunity to ride at Brands Hatch in the EVO class after Tunstall sustained breaks to his pelvis and sacrum in a crash at Snetterton just over a month ago.

“Glenn is highly thought of by BMW and his success on the S1000RR in this year’s Australian Superbike Championship speaks for itself,” Tunstall said.

“It will certainly be in at the deep end for him as he hasn’t used Pirelli tyres or seen any of the UK tracks before, and his first full day of the bike will include qualifying and a race!

“Glenn is very motivated and enthusiastic and we look forward to seeing him on track.”

Allerton is excited for the opportunity that awaits him in the UK.

“I’m racing BSB this weekend at Brands Hatch,” the 30-year-old confirmed to CycleOnline. “I’m just really excited to be given the opportunity with the Doodson Motorsport BMW team.”

Allerton currently leads the Australian Superbike Championship by 56 points and has an impressive record of finishing on the podium in every race so far this season, securing six wins from 10 races.
