Procon Maxima Racing BMW’s Glenn Allerton is on track to clinch his second Australian Superbike Championship with a round to spare when the QBE-backed series reaches Tasmania on 11-13 November.

Allerton won his first and only title in 2008 for Honda, but after a dominant first season with BMW’s S 1000 RR this year, the title is all but his with a 67-point advantage and just three races to go.

Queensland Raceway’s sixth round alongside the V8 Supercars saw Allerton finish second overall with 2-4 finishes, the second race marking the first time this season that he hasn’t finished inside the top three.

“The positives from today are that we came away with an even bigger championship points lead and I finished second for the weekend, I can’t complain about that,” Allerton reflected.

“The Procon Maxima BMW went really well, I think if we had have done a test between the last race and this one like everyone else did we would have been that step further forward and battling for the win.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t do that due to me being overseas and doing some racing. We’ll go to the next round and try to consolidate, I’m strong at Tasmania so I’ll go to my favourite track and hopefully be able to take the number one plate there.”

Allerton raced with a new livery at the Paperclip, featuring a black colour scheme to promote BMW’s M Series road cars.
