Queensland Raceway round winner Wayne Maxwell is certain he has what it takes to climb to second in the QBE Australian Superbike Championship as the series enters its final stages at his favourite tracks.

Maxwell took the overall in Queensland with a dramatic first race win and fifth in race two, hoping that the result boosts his form at Symmons Plains and Phillip Island to round out the season.

“To get the overall win here in front of an awesome crowd is good,” Maxwell beamed. “The overall win is a bit of a surprise, it’s a lucky win with Jamie and some of the other boys making mistakes.

“It puts us back in contention for second in the championship and that’s all we can achieve after the year we’ve had. Full credit to the guys at Team Honda Racing, they’ve given me the confidence to get up the front and battle with those guys.

“We move on to some tracks that I’m a bit stronger at, Tassie and Phillip Island, so I should be able to get up there and end up second in the championship overall.”

Maxwell now sits sixth in the championship, 19 points out of second place, which is shared by Jamie Stauffer and Ben Attard at this stage.

Saturday’s race win marked Maxwell’s first of the season after he edged out runaway points leader Glenn Allerton for the W.
