Team Honda Racing’s Jamie Stauffer is making no excuses following an uncharacteristic crash in race one at Queensland Raceway, robbing him of the second QBE Australian Superbike round win in a row.

Stauffer bounced back to win on Sunday in dominant fashion after taking pole, but his opening race mishap meant he had to settle for eighth overall – and watch his title hopes fade in the process.

“Yesterday was a disappointment – it’s one of those things that happen in racing and we could have won that quite easily,” dual ASBK champion Stauffer said.

“We made up for it today by going out there and getting the win. The conditions weren’t easy today, the track was a bit slippery but everyone had to race in the same conditions.

“I’m just glad we brought it home for the win.”

The 2006 and 2007 ASBK champion has proven the man to beat in recent rounds, winning both races at Queensland Raceway’s fifth round in June, before scoring Superpole and the second race win last weekend.

Stauffer is now tied for second in the standings with Aprilia’s Ben Attard, but had little hope of closing Glenn Allerton’s 67-point gap for the championship with just two rounds remaining.
