Team Honda Racing’s Wayne Maxwell won the Australian Superbike support races at the IVECO Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, scoring 1-1-3 results for the weekend.

BMW’s Glenn Allerton has produced a masterful wet-weather performance in the final Superbike support race this morning, however it was Maxwell who managed to clinch the overall.

Allerton, who is on target to win his second Australian Superbike Championship in 2011, led the shortened five-lapper for most of the journey, before holding off a fast finishing Jamie Stauffer (Honda) to by 0.398 seconds.

“We have shown good pace all weekend, and it’s a great reward for the team to get this victory on the board,” said Allerton. “It was slippery out there and windy, but I just concentrated on keeping things nice and tidy.

“It’s not always easy in those conditions, but we got there.”

Maxwell, who won the opening two Superbike races this weekend, finished in third – but was fortunate to even complete the first lap after nearly throwing himself over the bars at Marco Simoncelli corner, aka Turn 10.

Maxwell was the overall Superbike winner on 68 points ahead of Allerton on 63, with Nicholas Waters and Robbie Bugden (Suzuki) tied on 46 for the final podium position.

In Superstock 1000, it was a clean sweep for Brodie Waters, with Corey Snowsill and Phil Lovett second and third.
