Maxwell tops Friday ASBK qualifying at Phillip Island

Team Honda Racing’s Wayne Maxwell was fastest in Friday’s qualifying action at Phillip Island’s Australian Superbike Championship opener today.

Maxwell topped the final qualifying sessions to finish the day with a 1:33.484, narrowly ahead of Team Suzuki’s 2009 champion Josh Waters, who posted a 1:33.680.

Both Maxwell and Waters were the lone men in the 1:33 bracket, while Jamie Stauffer (Team Honda Racing), Robert Bugden (Team Volvo Group Suzuki) and defending champion Glenn Allerton (Procon BMW) completed the top five.

Top Prostock runner was Dustin Goldsmith aboard a Kawasaki ZX-10R with a new record of 1:35.281.

In Supersport it was Mitchell Carr who was fastest aboard the InsureMyRide/AARK Racing Triumph, edging out Team Honda Racing newcomer Josh Hook and Team Suzuki’s Brodie Waters. Leading Superstock rider was YRD rider Daniel Falzon.

The return of the 250cc Production class saw Queenslander Luke Burgess win aboard a Kawasaki Ninja 250R, from Olly Simpson (Kawasaki) and Zac Levy (Honda).
