Next Gen Motorsports BMW’s Glenn Allerton converted his qualifying form to the pole position during this morning’s revamped Superpole session at Tasmania’s opening round of the QBE Australian Superbike Championship.

Allerton continued to dominate the weekend with a 53.503s set in the final leg of three sessions, which decided the qualifying order.

Team Suzuki’s Wayne Maxwell slotted his GSX-R1000 into second, narrowing the gap to Allerton down to 0.375s. His teammate Robbie Bugden was third, the final rider to lap within a second of Allerton.

Allerton’s BMW teammate Linden Magee put his S 1000 RR a stunning fourth on the grid, the reigning Prostock champion edging out fellow Superbike rookie Chas Hern (CM Racing Suzuki).

The surprise of qualifying was the result of Team Honda Racing’s title favourite Jamie Stauffer, who missed out on the final stint of Superpole after being ‘excluded’ due to a rule breach and forcing him to start from sixth. He was 1.155s off the pace of Allerton.

Stauffer’s teammate Josh Hook qualified seventh in his rookie Superbike weekend, ahead of Prostock campaigner Ben Nicolson (Next Gen Motorsports BMW).

Rounding out the top 10 in the stacked field was Beau Beaton (Racers Edge Performance Suzuki) and Ben Henry (Cube Racing Suzuki), while Team InsureMyRide Racing’s Glenn Scott was 11th.

Race one will take place at 12:30pm this afternoon at Symmons Plains. Coverage of today’s opening 16-lap race can be seen on 7TWO at 1:35pm (check local guides for listings).
