Current Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) points leader Glenn Allerton has confirmed his entry at this weekend’s third round of the Australian FX-Superbike Championship at Wakefield Park where he’ll campaign his Next Gen Motorsports BMW in the Formula Oz class.

Allerton stormed to an early series lead at the first point-scoring round of the ASBK at Symmons Plains, taking both race wins as well as the additional point for Superpole.

With over two months between rounds, Allerton felt it was necessary for the bike’s continued development to chase as much track time as possible.

“We’ve got some new parts that we want to try for the bike and track time is really the best way to do that,” said Allerton.

“Wakefield Park is really close to where I am so it makes sense to go there and race to see how the new settings respond and try to refine anything we can.

“We’ll be running in the Formula Oz class so that we can enter the Superbike we race in the ASBK, it should be a good shakedown and we’ll be up against some really strong opposition so we’ll stay on the ball.

“The team has been working really hard away from the track so we’re looking forward to seeing the results this weekend. I have to thank Di Candilo Steel City for their help in getting us set for the weekend too.”

Amongst other credentialed riders, Allerton and the BMW will be taking on the undefeated Kevin Curtain on the Yamaha Racing Team R1 and his teammate, Broc Parkes, who recently placed second at the World Endurance Championship opener at Magny-Cours.

By contesting the event, Allerton will only need to enter one additional FX-Superbike round throughout the year to qualify for an entry into the $100,000 FX-Superbike 500 at Sydney Motorsport Park in November.
