2012 Australian Supersport Champion Mitchell Carr says racing in the World Supersport Championship is like starting an apprenticeship all over again.

The 25-year-old New South Welshman teamed up with Andy Offer to put together a package to win at a national level in 2012, and now, the same rider-mechanic partnership is putting it all on the line for success on a global scale.

“I believe that Australian road racers are among the best in the world with talent if given the right opportunities,” said Carr. “After winning the Australian Supersport title as a privateer team, it was our goal to tackle bigger and better.”

With the Triumph 675R a proven package, Carr is hopeful that additional track time will serve him well as he looks to move up the ladder to challenge consistently for points.

He said he was still getting used to lining up on the grid beside the sport’s biggest names, and those that he’d followed as his own career began to flourish.

“When you look around and see the riders you are competing against is a real eye opener,” he added. “Riders you have watched over the years on television, wondering if you will get that chance, and there you are, racing with them.

“It sinks in that the Road Racing apprenticeship starts all over again.”

Carr came close to banking championship points at the Australian season opener, and now has his head down as he continues to learn the circuits and strives to improve with each outing.
