Jorge Lorenzo is acutely aware of the need to stop Marc Marquez’ storming run as the MotoGP World Championship fight continues for a third consecutive weekend at Silverstone in the United Kingdom.

Repsol Honda’s Marquez is brimming with confidence after his fourth consecutive grand prix win, and Yamaha Factory Racing’s Lorenzo admits he had hoped to offer more opposition to the rookie rider.

“In Brno maybe I expected a little bit more but at least I feel quite happy with my performance,” said Lorenzo. “I gave all to win the race but my competitors were in a better shape there.”

He is eager to return to the top step of the podium as he did last year at Silverstone, but is wary of the changeable conditions that are often present.

“The track I think is really nice, very flowing and also suits our bike,” he said. “The problem in Great Britain is always the weather; it is a very challenging grand prix because of that!

“Despite the conditions we will try everything as usual to try to fight for the victory and cut off the distance to our rivals.”

The Spanish rider concedes that the title is heavily-weighted in Marquez’ favour, with the rookie scoring strong points when his two closest rivals were sidelined or slowed by injury.

“The difference between Marc and us is that he has not committed a serious mistake and not been injured,” said Lorenzo. “He has been able to run the race to 100 percent and we do not.

“Dani has missed two races to be at 100 percent, or even three. And I have had four races without being 100 percent.

“So logic says that Marc should be champion this year because he is the leader and he is always running at 100 percent.”

Making back the 44-point margin will be no mean feat. Marquez’ considerable buffer puts the pressure directly on Lorenzo to consistently finish at the front in the series’ second half, heightening the risk of making a mistake.
