The sixth round of the IDM German Superbike Championship at the Sachsenring saw a dramatic shakeup with two guest entrants stealing the spotlight from the series regulars.

Recent MotoGP wildcard rider, Austrian Martin Bauer rode his 3C-Racing Team Ducati Panigale to a win in the 16-lap opener, holding off Van Zon Rehema BMW’s Markus Reiterberger by a 0.168-second margin.

Honda Holzhauer Racing’s Michael Ranseder claimed third, from RAC Racing Aussie Damian Cudlin and teammate Freddy Foray. Gareth Jones managed a 10th place finish aboard his Monster Energy Yamaha.

Race two belonged to another familiar face, World Superbike Championship regular Max Neukirchner.

Neukirchner piloted his Superstock-spec Ducati to a comfortable race win over Bauer, though the latter would take top points as the lead Superbike finisher.

Reiterberger was again in the mix in third, with Ranseder displaced to fourth and Foray claiming fifth, ahead of a recovering Jones.

Cudlin made just half-race distance, classified a non-finisher in what was a tough weekend.

Defending champion Erwan Nigon and title favourite Matej Smrz were also ruled out of the running, both suffering injuries that has allowed Reiterberger to take a commanding lead in the class.

Kevin Wahr won both Supersport races from Roman Stamm, with Luca Grunwald and Jan Buhn sharing the minor placings.

Aussie Jed Metcher had a solid run, scoring fifth and sixth place finishes on his Team Suzuki Mayer entry and maintaining sixth on the points ladder.

The championship now moves to Hockenheim for its penultimate round on 20-22 September.
