Honda rider Alex Lowes took the Donington Park double as the final makeup of the Title Fighters showdown was confirmed.

Samsung Honda’s Alex Lowes delivered a double-blow at Donington Park, winning both British Superbike Championship races and strengthening his title chances following the ninth of 12 rounds.

Lowes took the early lead in Sunday’s opening race, with Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne and Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Brookes in tow.

Brookes and Milwaukee Yamaha’s James Ellison battled early for third, with the Aussie dropping back a place as the top three positions went unchanged for the duration.

Lowes withstood pressure from Byrne to take his third consecutive race win, while Ellison held fourth and confirmed his place in the Title Fighters showdown in the process.

Polesitter James Westmoreland slipped to fifth at the conclusion of the race, with Jon Kirkham, Chris Walker, Jakub Smrz, PJ Jacobsen and Barry Burrell rounding out the top 10. Aussie Josh Waters carded a solid 12th.

The Lowes/Byrne battled continued in race two, with the Honda heading home the Kawasaki by just 0.058 seconds at the wave of the chequered flag.

The leading pack was hard to separate, with Ellison, Brookes, Westmoreland and Tommy Bridewell all vying for a final spot on the podium.

Bridwell ran second momentarily before Byrne fought back, leaving the Halsall Racing Kawasaki to finish a solid third.

Westmoreland took fourth and in the process, secured the final Title Fighters berth. Brookes was fifth, while Ellison dropped to sixth as a result of a mistake.

Kirkham, Walker, Jacobsen and Smrz formed the final places in the top 10, with Waters again finishing 12th.

Donington Park proved a successful outing for the British Supersport Aussie riders who took four of the six available podium positions across the sprint and feature races.

Smiths Triumph’s Billy McConnell won the opener from Stuart Easton and teammate and countryman Glen Richards, with Ben Wilson fourth and Graeme Gowland fifth.

Samsung Honda’s Jason O’Halloran had factored in the podium battle but dropped places when he ran across the gravel in the closing laps.

Easton won the second race of the day and regained the points lead over Alastair Seeley who floundered at the back of the top 10 for much of the meeting.

O’Halloran grabbed a solid second, with McConnell back on the podium in third, and Richards fourth. Suzuki rider Taylor Mackenzie rounded out the top five.

Superstock 1000 race victory went the way of Hudson Kennaugh, with Filip Backlund and Victor Cox claiming the minor placings.

Callan Cooper was a clear winner in the Superstock 600 race, followed home by Luke Hedger and Joe Collier.

It was an up and down race for the Aussies taking part, with Mark Wilkinson fighting his way to fifth, James Mutton running 24th and Levi Day recording his first DNF of the season.
