Carlos Checa’s disappointing 2013 campaign has come to a premature end.

Team SBK Ducati Alstare’s Carlos Checa will miss the remainder of the 2013 World Superbike Championship after further examinations following his early practice crash at Istanbul Park revealed he had sustained a fractured pelvis.

The Spanish rider suffered a violent high-side crash mid-way through the initial 90-minute practice session, with Clinica Mobile diagnosing a contusion to his upper thorax as well as a fracture to his left schaphoid.

Upon returning to Spain and after further extensive tests, Doctor Xavier Mir determined Checa had also sustained a fracture to his pelvis at the point where it joins the femoral head.

Surgery is currently being performed but the nature of the injury and the subsequent recovery time will rule the former WSBK champion out for the remainder of the 2013 season.

The development ends an ultimately disappointing championship campaign for Checa, who secured pole position at the season opener but has only been able to achieve one sixth place race finish from the rounds contested so far, placing him 14th in the standings.

No Ducati machines were present on the grid for the second race at Istanbul Park, a first for the brand in its decorated WSBK history. It also marked just the second race where the Ducati has not scored a single point.
