Marc Marquez will start his final home grand prix of the season from pole position at Motorland Aragon as MotoGP’s three title contenders line up in order of points on the front row.

Repsol Honda’s Marquez sealed his seventh pole position of the season in Spain after the early pace had been set on a damp track by teammate Dani Pedrosa.

The Q2 session went the way of the rookie once more as he reeled off 1m47.804 lap, a qualifying record, to confirm himself on pole.

Starting alongside him is Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo, just 0.10 seconds off the pace, with Pedrosa completing the front row.

Fourth place in the Q2 session went to Valentino Rossi, with the factory Yamaha rider missing a front row start by just 0.005 seconds. LCR Honda’s Stefan Bradl ran fifth from fellow Honda rider, Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista.

Row three comprises of both Monster Tech3 Yamaha men, with Cal Crutchlow sitting ahead of Bradley Smith, while Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso will start ninth.

Aleix Esparagaro completes the top 10 and is ranked in his usual place as lead CRT, with two more prototypes behind him.

Bryan Staring will start from 21st on his FTR Gresini Honda, with fellow Aussie Damian Cudlin closing out qualifying in 24th.

Aspar Team’s Nicol Terol claimed his first career pole position in the Moto2 class, joined on the front row by the Tuenti HP40 pairing of Esteve Rabat and Pol Espargaro.

Terol’s 1m53.812 lap secured him the top placing, with Rabat running just 0.173 seconds in arrears.

ItalTrans Racing’s Takaaki Nakagami heads off the second row alongside Aspar’s Jordi Torres and NGM Mobile Racing’s Simone Corsi, with Julian Simon, Alex de Angelis and Sandro Cortese securing themselves a start from row three.

Points leader Scott Redding suffered pain from his recent arm pump surgery and could do no better than 13th, pointing to a tough grand prix ahead.

QMMF Racing Team’s Anthony West will start the race from 18th on the grid, just 1.2 seconds away from the leaders’ pace in a closely-contested qualifying battle.

Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Rins will start the Moto3 duel from pole for the sixth time this season after a lightning qualifying performance in the Moto3 ranks.

Rins’ 1m58.571 effort was 0.702 seconds quicker than Team Calvo’s Maverick Vinales, with Alex Marquez running a close third.

Class leader Luis Salom will start from the third row and eighth on the grid, with fellow Red Bull KTM rider and Aussie Arthur Sissis in ninth.

Jack Miller was somewhat off his regular front-running pace at Aragon and could only manage 20th.
