While there was some close racing action in both the Swann Insurance Superbike and the YMF Loan Supersport championship, there was also close racing action in the Kawasaki Insurances Ninja FX 300/250 Ninja Cup, Formula Oz and the Pro-Twins/Naked Bikes at Wakefield Park today.

The all-new FX 300 Ninja Cup class it was a battle between the young guns of Brandon Demmery (Noise Guard Racing/RST//LS2/Pirelli/Motul) and Kyle Buckley (BC Performance A1 Kawasaki).

While Demmery did take out the overall round with 72 points on the board, it did look like he was going to take a clean-sweep with three wins. But it was Buckley who put a stop to that idea when in the final race he dived up the inside of Demmery on the last lap at the last corner. Buckley was second overall for the weekend when he ran a 2-2-1.

“The weekend went really well” said Demmery. “The whole team have worked really good all weekend and happy to have come out on top and looking forward to round two.”

Third place belonged to New Zealander Bailee Perriton, who brought his Fujitsu/ESPC Services entered machine home in third place in each race.

Behind Perriton was Queenslander Andy Lawson (Team Moto), tied on 50 points with Sophie Lovett (Kawasaki/Ricondi/Shark Helmet), who is sure giving the boys a hurry along. Lovett scored a 4-5-5 result.

Winning the FX 250 Cup class was Grant Jordon (1-2-1) from Stuart Green, who beat Jordon in race two with Craig White in third place.

In the Formula-Oz class it was Team Insure MyRide Racing’s Glenn Scott who stood tall by taking the overall round win on 70-points with a 1-3-1 result.

Scott beat fellow Honda Rider, Victorian Chris Trounson (Gas Honda/Unichip Australia) who was locked in battle all day with Scott and co. Trounson scored a solid second place in every race.

Third place went to the elder statesman of the class, Phil Lovett (Cessnock Motorcycles/Harley Davidson). The highlight of the day for Lovett was in race two which he went onto to win and posted his fastest lap time around Wakefield Park – a 59.182 set on lap seven.

Fourth place overall was Brayden Carr on his Carr Bros Motorsport Kawasaki ZX10R while Next Gen Motorsports rider Ben Nicolson rounded out the top five.

In eighth place overall was the 2011 European 600 Superstock champion Jed Metcher (Race Center/Batteries North) who was back on home soil racing again since 2009. Metcher did pull out of race one due his quick-shifter thread stripping. He bounced back to finish seventh in race two from dead last and then went on to finish in third in the final race.

The only 600 rider in field Ryan Taylor was 10th overall on his Oz Wildcard Racing Yamaha R6 machine in his first time racing at Wakefield Park.

In the Pro-Twins it was a tearaway win from Craig McMartin on his Ducati 1199 with lights a blazed and all. McMartin beat last year’s champion, Simon Galloway, who was mounted on his KTM RC8R. In third was James Arnold (Italian Motorcycles/Arkada Hotel) on another Panigale.

Angus Reekie (KTM Racing/Motorex/Bendix/Bell) took out the Naked bike class, also with three wins to kick off the season on his KTM Super Duke.
