Team Motul Honda’s Wayne Maxwell has done it again by claiming three wins from three starts today in round two of the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship.

Maxwell, who also won yesterday’s three races in the YMF-Loan Australian FX-Superbike Championship seemed to do it pretty easy in race one, but was pushed all the way in race two by YRT with Yamaha Motorcycle Insurance rider Cru Halliday as he finished just 0.287s behind.

Then race three was a bell-ringer! Maxwell’s stablemate, Jamie Stauffer, led from the word go and looked as if he was going to spoil the party until the final lap and last corner when he went a bit wide which allowed Maxwell through to take the victory by a 0.437s.

“What can I say? The Team Motul Honda worked unbelievable today,” Maxwell told CycleOnline.com.au. “A massive thanks to my crew chief Warren. It’s been a fantastic weekend, let’s see what we can do at Queensland in June.”

Maxwell’s three wins gave him the overall championship, only by six points however over Stauffer who finished second for the round

Third went to a happy Robbie Bugden as he steered his YRT with Yamaha Motorcycle Insurance R1 to a 3-4-3 result.

“It was a good day really,” said Bugden. “We are making good progress with the YMI Yamaha R1. We are getting better, we are making improvements, small as they may be. We turned things around from round one and we have been on the podium in every race.

“The team has worked so hard, anything which I have asked for they have been more than willing to jump on board to get it done.”

In a solid fourth place was Halliday who regraded this weekend was the best he has had. Halliday finished with a 4-2-4 result; “Getting second in that second race is almost a career highlight,” beamed Halliday.

Troy Herfoss (Team Honda Racing) rounded out the top five three fifth place finishes.

Heading into the next round in June at the ‘Paperclip’, the championship looks like this: Maxwell on 137, Stauffer on 131, Sean Condon (BikeBiz Racing/Ipone/Swann Insurance/Kawasaki Australia) in third on 99 after he finished sixth overall today.

Herfoss lies in fourth, one point behind while Dynotech Pirelli BMW ace Glenn Allerton sits in sixth on 96. Allerton deserves the bravery award after battling through the pain of recent knee surgery to salvage eighth.

In the Supersport just two races were conducted as in race three the red flag was brought out twice due to multiple incidents. Callum Spriggs (Allsite Concrete Cuting/Hydro Construction/YRD/XXX Rated Yamaha) made it back-to-back round wins after scoring a 1-2 result.

In race one Spriggs and his good mate Aiden Wagner (Wagner Soil Testing/YRD/XXX Rated Suspension Yamaha) were locked into their own little private affair with Spriggs beating him by just 0.406s.

“Back-to-back round wins is simply unreal,” said Spriggs. “I can’t wait for my home race in Queensland now.” He now leads the title on 114 points.

Aaron Morris (Maxima Yamaha/YRD/Bell/Alpinestars/Watson Demolition) was second overall when he got a 3-1 result and sits in second in the championship. Wagner rounded out the podium place and also sits in third in the title hunt.

The biggest upset for the day would be for Daniel Falzon (Caterpillar EPSA/Yamaha). The hometown hero came off in race one, but got back on to finish seventh. In race two he finished third, but then in he was looking the goods to win before the red flag was brought out while he was leading both times.

With race three being canned, Falzon only managed to score 34-points for the round to finish fourth overall. Patrick Medcalf (Central Coast Performance/YRD/Ipone Yamaha) was fifth.
