Team rumoured to make satellite Ducati switch next year.
Colombian Yonny Hernandez has signed for the Aspar Team in next year’s MotoGP World Championship, expected to be remaining on board Ducati customer machinery for his fifth season in the premier class.
Aspar is tipped to be trading its Honda Open class bikes in favour of Desmosedici GP equipment in 2016. A teammate for Hernandez is yet to be finalised despite Eugene Laverty being on an existing two-year deal.
“I am very excited to be joining the Aspar Team,” Hernandez said. “Several years ago we tried to work together, but couldn’t reach an agreement, now we can finally be together. I am happy to be part of the Aspar Team, my goal is to work and give my best to get the best results for the team next season.
“I know the Aspar Team is a very professional team, I am convinced that next year we can reach a high level. This is a winning team that has demonstrated for a long time what they can do. I hope we can adapt well to all the new changes planned for 2016 and benefit from them all. It will be a new adventure because all drivers start from scratch with new tyres and electronics.”
Jorge Martinez ‘Aspar’: “I think he is a great rider Yonny, we have talked in the past. He has so much potential and has shown to be fast many times. I am convinced that the Aspar Team, with our experience and professionalism will help Yonny to keep evolving and produce great results.
“For our part we have to keep working hard and continue taking steps to get the Aspar Team back up to where we belong – next year we will have great joys. Yonny is an experienced pilot and with out method of working he will be able to gain a lot of consistency ahead of the races, an area he still has room for improvement.”
With Hernandez now officially departing Pramac Ducati at the end of this season, Scott Redding has previously been confirmed to be joining the team alongside Danilo Petrucci.
