Crankt Protein Honda Racing’s Troy Herfoss will start out of pole position for Sunday’s second round of the 2016 YMF Australian Superbike Championship at Wakefield Park.

Much to the delight of his Goulburn fans, Herfoss eclipsed the pole record in the 10-minute Pirelli Superpole showdown, posting a 57.350s laptime on lap seven of seven.

“It was a great session and it’s really exciting having Superpole here at ASBK,” Herfoss said. “Everyone always asks me why I ride a push bike so much, but it felt like I was in a criterium race out there.

“We tested here at Wakefield last week and my race pace was there, so that gives me some added confidence. The tyre that we’re riding on is going to do those lap times all the way through to the end of the race so that’s a massive confidence booster.”

The time placed Herfoss ahead of Yamaha Racing Team trio Wayne Maxwell, Glenn Allerton and Cru Halliday – all lapping within the 57s bracket – while Mike Jones (DesmoSport Ducati) and Ant West (Crankt Protein Honda Racing) completed the timesheet.

A report posted following earlier qualifying sessions including the Superbike, Supersport, Production, R3 Cup and Moto3/125GP categories can be found here.

The opening races of the weekend took place this afternoon with Brandon Demmery taking out the Production battle, overcoming Reid Battye (Kawasaki) and Sam Condon (Kawasaki) for victory – the three split by just 0.873s.

In the first-ever R3 Cup race, experienced Queenslander Zac Levy rode to a solid 6.647s win over Callum Alderson and Hunter Ford. Ty Lynch and Aidan Hayes rounded out the top five in the brand new development ranks.
