Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran is certain he has the pace to shake-up the Showdown phase of the 2016 British Superbike Championship after ranking third in the regular season point-standings.

After already confirming his place in the Showdown, O’Halloran was on the hunt for podium credits at Oulton Park last weekend, however it wasn’t to be as he went 4-4-DNF in the triple-header.

The final race saw the Australian on pole position after setting the fastest lap in race two. Holding on at the front it looked as if a second race win was waiting for O’Halloran, but disaster on lap 14 saw him retire from the running with a gearbox issue.

“So that’s Oulton Park done I am a little disappointed to leave here with no podiums as I felt that we had good pace throughout,” O’Halloran said. “In that last race I thought I could have won, I was fighting with [Leon] Haslam and he passed me and then I’d pass him again, so it was looking hopeful, but it wasn’t to be.

“I’m gutted for that, but now heading into Showdown I feel that we’ve found more speed and we are competitive, I think Donington and Assen will suit us and the CBR, we’ve also had some good rounds at Brands so it’s all to play and fight for. We have the fight in us, and the right package to get the results – we just need to pull it all together now.”

O’Halloran now joins title-leader Leon Haslam, defending champion Shane Byrne, James Ellison, Honda teammate Dan Linfoot and Luke Mossey in the Showdown rounds of the series to determine the 2016 champion. He’s 33 points outside of the lead with three events remaining.
