Newly crowned Australian Supersport Champion, Tom Toparis has put a massive exclamation mark on what has been a dominant season for both himself and his Landbridge Racing team at last weekends grand finale in this year’s Motul Pirelli Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The Goulburn based rider was once again to good for field, topping every session throughout the weekend. Claiming his seventh Australian Supersport pole position on Saturday, with a time of 1min32.739, .315 seconds faster than fellow Yamaha rider, Tom Edwards, Toparis rode to two incredible race wins, which handed him his ninth overall round win the Supersport class.

“It’s been good to have Tom [Edwards] here this weekend, as he rode so well over the course of the weekend and considering the hot conditions we have had over the past days,” said Toparis after race two.

“To the end the season with another pole position and two race wins is simply an awesome way to finish up the year. This year has been amazing. Every race we have been competitive, which goes to show just good the Yamaha YZF-R6 is.

“I want to say a massive thank you to the Landbridge Racing team for their efforts this year. They have worked super hard all year. Hats off also to all my sponsors as well. Its been a big team effort and couldn’t have done it without them. I’m really looking forward to 2020,” finished Toparis.

Second to Toparis was Edwards, who has been racing in the 2019 FIM Supersport 300 World Championship. Last weekend marked Edwards’ first ever time racing a Supersport machine. The 21-year-old had no idea what to expect heading into the seventh and final round of the championship, as he has had barley anytime on the BikeBiz Yamaha YZF-R6.

“I came into the round and I was a little bit behind the eight ball,” said Edwards. “I had quite a lot to catch up to Tom [Toparis]. Heading into the races I was unsure if I was going to be able to match his race pace by the end of the weekend. However, in every session we made big improvements, with myself, and a little bit with the bike as well,” he added.

The final step on the podium went to Jack Passfield (Stay Upright Rider Training/Dmoto/GASD Suspension/KYT Helmets), who snared another back-to-back overall podium finish.
Passfield, who qualified third on the grid with a 1min33.548 went on to score a 5-3 result.

“I’m so happy to be able to come home with a third place in race two and for the round as well,” said Passfield after race two. “Being able to stay up the front with Toparis and Edwards has really taught me how to ride at the next level. Unfortunately, my tyres went away at the end of the race, but it was a great race for the team and I,” finished Passfield, who came home sixth in the overall championship standings.

Two points behind Passfield was Broc Pearson who strung together a 6-4 result. His result consolidated him second place in the championship fight finishing 42-points ahead of South Australians Nic Liminton, who came home sixth for the round.

Rounding out the top five was Jack Hyde, also mounted on a Yamaha YZF-R6.

In the Supersport 300 Championship, Max Stauffer was denied the championship by one single point after he came home with a 2-4-5 result which handed him fourth for the round.

Hunter Ford was the sole Yamaha rider to finish on the podium, after he finished with a 3-7-2 result.
