In this instalment of Five Questions Why, multi-time ASBK champion and Penrite Honda Racing rider Troy Herfoss answers a variety of topics heading into the 2020 season.

Why are excited to be using Michelin tyres this season?

It’s exciting because it’s a manufacturer coming back into the sport. Michelin has a rich history in motorsport – two and four wheels – and they’re currently operating in MotoGP. It’s just exciting really, and it’s also a new adventure for me. I’m always interested in learning new things, so it’s going to spice things up for me this year.

Why is Paul Free returning to work with you?

Because he’s the best in the game – I obviously worked with Shaun Clarke for a lot of years, and he worked with Paul. Shaun has obviously decided to step away from the sport this year, and I’ve had a really good relationship with Paul over the last few years. I know that we work well together – it’s a very important part of the process having a good crew chief, and I think Paul’s the man for the job.

Why are you counting down the days for the 2020 Fireblade?

I know it’s going to be good! Honda don’t mess around, and it’s been a long time coming. I can’t wait to feel the power!

Why are you anticipating a challenging ASBK title fight this season?

It’s always tough – it’s funny, at the start of every year there’s always a lot of guys that are going to be fighting for the championship. There are some news guys coming in, and everyone is ambitious at the start of the year, so it’s going to make for a fun opener.

Why were you racing the 2020 Road Nationals?

Just because it’s a big passion for me! I enjoy cycling – the thing about cycling that I enjoy is that I’m my own engine – it’s just about me and getting the most out of my body. It sets me up for the year with a really great base fitness, so it’s a good hobby, and a healthy hobby!
