MX NATIONALS ROLL ON TO CANBERRA

Motorcycling Australia press release:

With the first round of the 2009 Australian Motocross Championship done and dusted, attention has now turned to the second action-packed round to be held at Canberra on 18-19 April.

More than 150 of Australia’s best Motocross riders will take to the newly developed World-Class track at the ACT Motor Cycle Club, including current Pro Opens class leader Todd Waters (Honda).

Waters, who recently stepped up from the Pro Lites class has been riding on cloud nine since his opening round win and is keen to keep the red leader plate as the Series progresses.

“Following the first round I felt pretty pumped that all the hard work that the team has been putting in has finally paid off,” Waters said.

“I really have to thank all the good people that are around me at the moment for making this possible.”

Waters, who hails from Atherton, Queensland, impressed with his fast pace and smooth riding style at the opening round, earning him an impressive 69 Championship points.

After failing to make the grade in 2008, it seems Waters has found his form in the new class, and, with the backing on a new team, seems set to stun throughout the season.

“I think I’ve always had speed there, but last year I found I fell in a hole,” he said.

“I came through from Junior’s and won my first pro race and then I stepped into the Pro Lites and I found it really hard.

“I had a lot of things going on in my head and this year I’ve really just stepped back and said, ‘I’m really just going to give it everything’ and I’ve got a good team behind me.

“I had a really good pre-season as well, training with my teammates Ford Dale and Peter Boyle, but I’ve really got to put it down to the team.

“I think I ride the 450cc bike a lot better, it suits my style, it is smoother, I’m not out of control and the fuel injection is really good.”

Waters rode at the Canberra track a few weeks ago, and, like many of the other riders, was impressed with what the club have done with the track,

“The guys have put in a huge effort,” he said.

“The track’s really good, it’s got some big flowy jumps which will make for some good racing and I can’t wait.”

With Australia’s best Motocross riders taking to this new world class track this is one event not to be missed.
