WATERS HOPING FOR HOME ADVANTAGE

Woodstock Honda press release:

Woodstock Honda Thor rider, Todd Waters is hoping for a return to the winner’s circle when the 2009 Australian Motocross Championship heads to his home state of Queensland for this weekend’s round three at Toowoomba.

Slated as a major star of the future, the 18-year-old rookie burst into the Pro Open class with a stunning win on debut in this season’s round one and backed up the performance with another podium finish in the second round.

Queensland born and bred, Waters will once again be a formidable force aboard the Woodstock Honda CRF450R when he fronts up in familiar territory at the Toowoomba Motocross Club.

With a definite affinity for the Toowoomba circuit, it was the scene of Waters’ very first Pro race, which he holeshotted and won in an extraordinary debut in the National Pro Lites class.

Joining Woodstock Honda Thor Racing for the 2009 season, Waters and the team recently used the Toowoomba round of the Sunshine State Series to conduct pre-season testing in full race conditions as vital preparation for this weekend’s racing.

The Woodstock Honda – Waters partnership yielded success immediately as Waters won the 450cc class, and bodes well for another dominant performance at Toowoomba on Sunday.

More recently, the in-form Waters also claimed victory in the 450cc class at the opening round of the Queensland State Motocross Championship in Townsville less than two weeks ago, reinforcing his status as a hot favourite for the Toowoomba battle.

With back-to-back Queensland-based events, Waters is looking recreate his opening-round magic in Toowoomba and carry it through to his closest home track in Mackay next weekend, to keep himself firmly the national championship battle at the series’ midpoint.

TODD WATERS:

“I always like racing back in Queensland – there’s always great crowds.

“I’ve race at Toowoomba about four or five times and I like the track – it’s a rough, rutty, technical circuit that makes for good racing and I’m looking forward to that.

“I did my first ever Pro race there and won, which I think hadn’t been done in 30 years or so – that was the best race I’ve ever been in!

“Earlier in the year, the team came up to Toowoomba for the Sunshine State round to do some testing.

“It was great preparation for this weekend; they got the bike working really well and I’m looking forward to a good battle this weekend.”
