MXON: AMA champion Reed set for Motocross of Nations

CHAD REED:

Reigning AMA Motocross champion Chad Reed will spearhead Australia’s hopes of victory at the 2009 Motocross of Nations, set to be contested this weekend in Brescia, Italy.

The New South Welshman joins fellow Aussies Brett Metcalfe and Michael Byrne and will battle for success against 37 other nations in the multi-class contest.

Riding solid momentum after a standout season of motocross in the United States, Reed is certain to be a frontrunner in the MX1 class aboard his Suzuki RM-Z450.

He said he relished any opportunity presented to wear the green and gold and was looking to improve on a disappointing 2008 result.

“Motocross of Nations is something all riders look forward to, it’s a chance to fly the flag for your country and I am very proud of my Australian heritage,” said Reed.

“Personally I feel much better prepared for this year’s event following a full motocross season, I achieved some big goals, including a title win, and would love to carry over this success.

“As always, the competition will be very tough. There is a lot of experience and success within the 2009 team lineups.

“We’ve got a shot, for sure. If we can get away to clean starts and have fast, consistent finishes then I’m confident we can challenge for Australia’s first win.”

The 1720m Daniel Bonara track in Franciacorta has been re-designed for the event and will feature various obstacles including a mountainous section.

The track’s surface is primarily soil and features a 350m long section of deep sand.
