ASBK: Maxwell scores pole position for Phillip Island round

Oleon Motologic Racing Honda’s Wayne Maxwell will start from pole position at this weekend’s sixth round of the Woodstock Bourbon Australian Superbike Championship after qualifying fastest in this morning’s lone 25-minute qualifying session.

Maxwell was the only rider in the 1:32 range, while championship rival Josh Waters qualified second quickest on the first of the Team Joe Rocket Suzuki GSX-R1000s, edging out teammate Shawn Giles and current series leader Glenn Allerton.

New additions to the series this weekend include American Jake Holden and American-based Australian David Anthony, qualifying in seventh and 10th respectively for Evolution Sports Group Honda.

The opening non-championship race of the weekend will take place this afternoon at 5.24pm.

In Supersport, Shannon Johnson was the number one qualifier to score his first pole of the season, beating out Yamaha Racing Team teammates Jamie Stauffer and Bryan Staring, while TJRS’ Troy Herfoss will round out the front row.

Supersport races one and two will also be staged this afternoon after 5.00pm.

Race results will be uploaded this evening, before MotoOnline.com.au will feature our race feed direct from the circuit when tomorrow’s domestic action gets underway in the afternoon.
