Monster Kawasaki’s Chad Reed has dominated qualifying for tonight’s seventh and final round of the Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, at QSAC Stadium in Brisbane, Queensland, this afternoon.

Reed rode his KX450F to a blistering 1:05.336 to end the session over two second faster than visiting American Davi Millsaps’ (Honda USA) 1:07.361 in a solid start to the night.

The news wasn’t so good for fellow American Josh Grant (JGR Yamaha), who crashed hard late in the session and required medical attention, eventually getting up on his own steam and riding back to the pit area.

Grant ended the session fourth fastest behind American-based local favourite Dan Reardon (Woodstock Honda Thor Racing), who set a 1:07.543 to edge out Grant and double Pro Lites Champion Matt Moss (Rockstar Motul Suzuki).

Michael Byrne (Rockstar Maxima Honda) was sixth quickest ahead of Jay Marmont (CDR Rockstar Yamaha), with Marmont making his debut on the 2010 YZ450F as released on MotoOnline.com.au weeks ago.

Motorex KTM young gun Tye Simmonds was eighth quick, narrowly ahead of the third of the Americans, PJ Larsen (JDR Motorsports/MX RAD), while Cody Mackie rounded out the top 10 for Cool Air Kawasaki.

Daniel McCoy was another heavy crasher early in the session, the Coastal KTM rider also requiring medical attention until also riding back to his pit following the completion of the session.

Serco Yamaha American import Kyle Cunningham lead the Lites with a 1:12.251 ahead of local Brenden Harrison (Northstar Yamaha) and Lawson Bopping (Shift Motul Suzuki Development Team) on what is the biggest track in the history of Australian Supercross, with over 24,000 fans pre-paid for the night’s proceedings.

Tonight’s round will mark the retirement of both Troy Carroll and Cameron Taylor, two legends of the sport, with a special dedication planned for the opening ceremonies to the retiring veterans.

We’ll check back with an update on Grant and McCoy when it’s available.

UPDATED: Grant and McCoy will both be riding bruised and battered, while Todd Waters also was a crasher in the non-seeded session, suffering a shoulder injury. McCoy actually didn’t crash, but cased a jump and injured his foot upon impact.
