Former MX2 Motocross World Champion Ben Townley has continued his recent run of victories by winning the opening round of the New Zealand Supercross Championship in the Open class near Timaru at Pleasant Point.

Townley finished with 1-3-1 results to win the night’s proceedings over new MX1 NZ Motocross Champion Justin McDonald, who won the second race of the evening.

Rounding out the podium was Mason Phillips, who won the Lites class on the night ahead of Scott Columb and Brad Groombridge.

Australian 15-year-old junior Dylan Long rode to victory in the 250cc Lites class ahead of the Kiwis on their own soil, beginning his 2010 season on a strong note with GMR Motorex KTM.
