Oz MX: Marmont and Boyd set for redemption in Canberra

CDR Rockstar Yamaha teammates Jay Marmont and Cheyne Boyd are desperate to claw back points at MX Nationals round two on Sunday.

Marmont will enter the Canberra round placed third in the Pro Open point standings.

Marmont will enter the Canberra round placed third in the Pro Open point standings.

Defending Australian Pro Open Rockstar Energy MX Nationals Champion Jay Marmont is confident that he can return to the winner’s circle at Canberra’s second round of the 2010 title chase this weekend at Fairbairn Park in the ACT.

The Canberra round will see the exciting back-to-back four moto format for the first time this season, with 15-minute motos and five minutes in between each one, something that is certain to suit the determined and ultra fit Marmont.

Marmont finds himself in third after the opening round and looking to make up some lost points, hitting round one suffering from the flu, but is now 100 percent fit and looking forward to racing the Canberra circuit which is only two hours from his Wollongong base.

“I have had the chance to get over the flu and feel much better,” Marmont explained. “It’s also nice to get the first round out of the way and get into the serious business of trying to win a championship. The four moto format also shows who has been doing the work, so I am really looking forward to it.”

Teammate Cheyne Boyd, current national number two, can also see the benefit in the four race format and represents a big opportunity to make up some lost ground. Boyd currently sits in seventh place and a good weekend in Canberra would see him shoot up the leader board.

“This is a tough format, but with 100 points up for grabs, you have to make the most of it,” the Victorian said. “I am feeling confident on the bike and expect to do well in Canberra.”

Round two of the series will be contested this Sunday, with the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team entering the round as one of the favourites.
