RR: BSB star Easton to take on Donald at North West 200

Easton will take to the streets at the North West 200 this weekend.

Swan Honda British Superbike star Stuart Easton is gearing up to repeat his race-winning form this week as they prepare to light up the roads as the team returns for an assault on the International North West 200 in Ireland.

Easton currently lies third in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship standings and makes his return to the NW200 following a two-year absence, but he now has his sights firmly set on maintaining his winning streak as he targets a debut win in the Superbike and Superstock classes.

“I have done the North West 200 before but I have never won and the best result I had was a fourth in 2006, but this year I have a really strong package with the Swan Honda so I think I have a really good shot this year,” Easton said.

“Racing on the roads is a completely different discipline to racing on track but I am looking forward to the challenge of racing nine miles on public roads as there is so much going on. It is a great experience and hopefully I can take the winning form from Oulton Park and do the same on the roads for the Swan Honda team.”

Team manager Shaun Muir is excited to have his leading BSB rider at the NW200, confident the team can score victory.

“We always enjoy the NW200 races and this year is no different,” Muir said. “Stuart will have as good a chance as anyone else on the grid, and having excelled at the Macau GP for the past two years after a two-year absence, familiarising himself with the triangle should not pose too much of a problem.

“The decision to open the circuit to a full day’s practice on Thursday is a big step forward and the organisers should be applauded for the change. For all concerned, riders, teams and spectators, we hope that Saturday brings some good weather and uninterrupted races.”

Easton will enter the race as a favourite, as will Australia’s Isle of Man TT legend Cam Donald, the Victorian set to star on his Relentless Suzuki in the first major race of the 2010 season.

“The NW200 is such a huge event, after coming so close to a win in both the Superstock and Superbike races last year I will be looking for the top step of the podium again this year,” Donald commented.
