American PJ Larsen has wrapped up the 2010 Rockstar Energy MX Nationals Pro Lites Championship on Saturday at Coolum’s double-header round at the season finale.

The JDR Motorex KTM team rider raced to third overall on Saturday to capture the crown, winning the title in his maiden season Down Under – his first professional outdoor championship.

“It feels great – the whole team has been putting in a lot of work and I couldn’t have done it without those guys,” Larsen commented. “I knew that there were a lot of good guys over here in Australia, so I just wanted to come in and race the track, do my best, and it’s paid off.”

Winning the round on Saturday was Serco Yamaha’s Kirk Gibbs, who was able to wrap up the overall victory ahead of teammate and Queensland local Ford Dale, with Larsen rounding out the podium.

Bouncing back in the Pro Open class was Scottish star Billy Mackenzie, the Kawasaki Racing Team rider taking 2-1 results to claim the overall victory in damp conditions around the sand-based circuit.

Moto one was won by Honda privateer Dean Ferris, before a first-lap incident ruled him out of the order for moto two and ended his hopes for a podium finish.

Second overall was CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s Cheyne Boyd, while defending dual champion Jay Marmont looks destined to claim a record equalling third straight title tomorrow after finishing third overall on Saturday.

The Under 19s category was won by Coastal KTM’s Josh Cachia on Saturday, winning overall ahead of Harley Quinlan and Dylan Petersen.
