Australian motocross number three Dean Ferris will return to Europe this week in a bid to contest selected remaining rounds of the Motocross World Championship.

After sealing third overall in the 2010 Rockstar Energy MX Nationals Pro Open category behind Jay Marmont and Billy Mackenzie at Coolum in Queensland last Sunday, the top privateer in the series is now eager to impress on the international stage.

At Coolum, Ferris finished fourth on Saturday and second on Sunday, picking up two out of the six moto victories for the round during the double-header weekend.

“For me it was a very positive end to the Australian motocross season,” 20-year-old Ferris said. “We made some fundamental bike set up changes a few weeks back and that has really boosted my speed on tack.

“It showed on Sunday morning when I posted my first Pro Open pole position and then also the fastest lap in that final moto. For sure Billy and I where the fastest guys out on track this weekend, so to finish the championship with that form makes me really happy.

“This week I fly out to Belgium, my plan is to try and get a ride on a team for some of the remaining grand prix events, so hopefully that all comes together.”

Ferris had previously contested the German MX1 Grand Prix for the factory Team MX Honda Racing effort last month, finishing 16th debut in the world championship.

Ferris was also awarded the Andrew McFarlane Cup last weekend, an award that recognises the highest placed privateer rider in the Pro Open category in memory of the late Queenslander.
