X Games: Pastrana takes gold medal in Speed & Style final

Following a challenging day in the Rally Car competitions, Travis Pastrana pulled it all together to cap off the final X Games 16 event in style, grabbing the gold medal in the Moto X Speed & Style Final on Sunday night.

“I feel so lucky to have done well in this competition. I never have won and have always struck out,” said Pastrana. “The crowd here is awesome and I really feel welcomed here at X Games.”

Pastrana grabbed the holeshot from Nate Adams in the gold medal round and thanks to the sizable lead in the speed portion and a backflip double heel-click in the style portion, he was able to take home his 11th X Games gold medal.

“I knew Nate had bigger tricks. He was doing the 360s and lazyboy flips and I said ‘I’m just going to focus on the speed. I’m going to go as fast as I can,” said Pastrana. “This was a really good year and it feels so good.”

The crowd at the STAPLES Center got an extra serving of action as Jeremy Stenberg and Ronnie Faisst went head-to-head for the bronze medal.

It looked like the deal was sealed for Faisst as Stenberg went down on the first lap, but a bike stall for Faisst in lap three left the door open for Stenberg to come from behind for the bronze.

“I’m glad he stalled. I was laying there on the ground and I thought ‘I can’t give up now,'” said Stenberg. “The crowd was too excited for me to just give up so I went after it and I’m happy because I have a medal.”

Metal Mulisha general Brian Deegan took sixth behind racer Kevin Johnson, wrapping up a solid X Games performance after taking two silver medals in Rally on Saturday.
