Australia’s former AMA Superstock 1000 Champion Aaron Gobert visited the Laguna Seca round of the MotoGP World Championship and AMA Superbike Championship events late last month, scheduled to contest the FIM e-Power International Championship round.

Following an illustrious AMA career with numerous victories and podiums, Gobert returned to Australia for 2010 and formed his own Yamaha-supported Gobert Motorsports team in a bid to contest the Australian Supersport Championship.

After completing a test with electric motorcycle manufacturer Brammo last year in California, Gobert was selected to ride the team’s Empulse RR at the American round of the e-Power title, however a technical issue forced him and the team out of the event before practice commenced.

“It was disappointing to travel all the way over and not get to race as I was confident in the Brammo to do well in the race, but it was really good to catch up with a lot of friends in the AMA paddock again,” Gobert commented.

“I’m grateful for the guys at Brammo in selecting me to be involved in the electric bike project, and definitely hope to return to the States and do some more racing in the AMA in the future if the opportunity comes up. The pre-race exposure for the e-Power race was exceptional.”

In a highlight for Gobert and the Brammo outfit, the former Daytona race winner was featured in a massive billboard display in New York City’s Times Square in the lead-up to the Laguna Seca event.

Gobert has now returned to Australia in preparation for this month’s Queensland Raceway round of the Australian Supersport Championship, set to take place at the Ipswich-based circuit on 20-22 August.
