ASBK: Waters comments on Queensland disappointment

ASBK champion Josh Waters will miss this weekend's Queensland Raceway round.

ASBK champion Josh Waters will miss this weekend's Queensland Raceway round.

Team Suzuki’s Josh Waters has spoken out to MotoOnline.com.au this afternoon at Queensland Raceway’s fourth round of the 2010 Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship.

Waters has been ruled out of racing this weekend (see full story here), frustrated that he’s not able to compete, although thankful to Suzuki for the support he has received since suffering a high-speed crash during AMA Superbike testing in California last month.

“Suzuki have been fantastic through it all, even though the problem that I have means that I can’t ride,” the 23-year-old said this afternoon at Queensland Raceway.

“I can walk, I can talk, I can think, so I feel like a bit of a letdown considering I can’t ride. They’ve been unbelievable though – I appreciate them a lot.”

Waters’ absence this weekend means that his title defence is all but gone, a hugely disappointing aspect of the injuries that have ruled him out of this weekend.

“I get angry, upset and everything, to have something that I’ve dreamed of my whole life in defending a title,” he said. “I can’t explain how bad I want to ride, so touch wood I can ride as soon as next week – I just want to recover.

“I can’t wait to ride again, which is probably the hardest thing about being here this weekend. In my mind I feel normal, but there are things that won’t let me so we’ll have to wait until next time.”

Waters will remain on hand at Queensland Raceway this weekend in support of Team Suzuki and his brothers Brodie and Nick, who race Supersport and Superstock 600 respectively in the ASBK series.
